The hard part of guitar is the change.

Strumhold drills the switch between two chords. Strum along to a steady beat, and it listens to your guitar and scores every change — so you can watch your switches get cleaner drill by drill, and your scales note by note.

How a drill works

  1. Pick a pair

Two chords you're learning — say, E minor and A minor.

  2. Strum with the beat

A steady count keeps you honest. Switch chords on cue and keep strumming.

  3. Every change gets scored

The app hears what you play — through your device's mic, a headset, or a line-in from your audio interface — and scores the change: did you land the new chord, in time?

Scales, minus the mountain

A scale book reads like a wall of memorising: fourteen types, twelve keys each, a dozen shapes apiece. The hand's version is far smaller, because the modes share dots. Take a shape you can already play, treat a different note as home, and you are playing Dorian — same frets, same fingers, zero new fingerings. Most of the mountain turns out to be re-hearings of shapes you already own.

So the app drills the shapes rather than the list. Every scale here fits one six-fret window your hand never leaves, and the same listening that scores your chord changes scores a scale note by note — with the chart running ahead of you: one dot lit for the note due now, the next one waiting, and the step between them named as you go.

Built to stay out of your way

Works offline

Strumhold is a web app you can install straight from the browser. Drills, scoring, and your history all work with no connection.

Your practice stays yours

Everything is saved on your device. Audio is processed on the spot to score your playing — it is never uploaded.

Sized for beginners

Open chords two at a time, scales one six-fret shape at a time — small pieces, the ones that trip you up in real songs, practiced until they don't.
